ASECNA signs air safety agreement with South Sudan

The Agency for Air Traffic Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) and the government of South Sudan on Wednesday signed a partnership and assistance agreement in Juba, the South Sudan capital, in the field of air safety.

Under the agreement, ASECNA will help the newly-independent South Sudan to put in place the air traffic management system.

This involves the training of South Sudan technicians in air traffic control, weather forecasting, fire control and supporting the government to set up structures to manage the civil aviation sector.

South Sudan, which proclaimed independence on 9 July 2011, does not yet have personnel and technical and administrative structures to take care of its civil aviation sector.
