Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – Bank governors of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Thursday convened their 11th conference here simultaneously as their counterparts of the Union of Maghreb Banks (UBM) are holding their ninth conference to harmonise banking issues in the subregion.

Participants at the separate meetings are expected to discuss “the compulsory preventive rules according to the new appropriate risk- prevention conventions, provisions and conditions in managing equity capital in a move to avoid bankruptcy,” an official source said.

The source said other issues to be addressed during these sessions cover security and stability of the banking system, protection of depositors and the French experience.

Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia are members of the AMU.
