Chinese group Taikang Electronics, specialized in mechanical industries and the manufacture of high-precision components for electric vehicles and electronics, has selected Tunisia as the location for its first production unit outside China.
The subsidiary, named Taikang Electronics Tunisia, will be launched with an initial investment of approximately 40 million dinars (around €12 million). According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Planning, this first phase is expected to create around 300 jobs, with all output destined for export.
On May 4, 2026, Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh received the group’s Executive Director and General Manager. They announced that all preparatory stages had been completed, including the acquisition of land. Novation City, in Sousse, is being considered as the site for the project.
Company representatives also stressed that the choice of Tunisia for this first overseas production unit resulted from in-depth studies that highlighted the country’s assets and its capacity to ensure project success and meet the group’s development objectives, the statement said.
Project born from industrial prospecting phase
The Chinese group had previously carried out exploratory missions in Tunisia to assess the investment climate, industrial infrastructure, and opportunities offered by the local ecosystem.
A delegation of suppliers and representatives from the automotive sector also made visits to the country, including to technology hubs such as Novation City in Sousse.
These prospecting efforts gradually paved the way for the project’s structuring, moving into a concrete phase over recent months. The dossier advanced through technical discussions and site evaluations, culminating in the signing of a land acquisition contract.
From China to global expansion
Founded in 1986 in China, where it operates several industrial sites and a research and development center, the group now supplies major automotive and industrial manufacturers. Its development was first consolidated in the Chinese market before gradually shifting towards an international expansion strategy, with a recent desire to relocate part of its production outside Chinese territory.
For the group, Tunisia thus represents a strategic entry point into this internationalization, at a time when Chinese industrialists are increasingly seeking to bring their production units closer to global markets and diversify their locations.
Taikang Electronics is an industrial player specializing in the manufacture of precision electronic and mechanical components, primarily for the automotive industry, especially electric vehicles. It produces control systems, electrical components and high value-added technical parts.
