Christine Lagarde hails ‘progress’ in Mauritanian economy

 The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, on Wednesday said she was pleased with progress made by Mauritanian economy.

Speaking at the end of a meeting with president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, she noted the “good budgetary situation, particularly the good results in terms of growth”.

It said the effects of these conditions could be seen in infrastructure, support programmes for the most impoverished and health and education policies.

Lagarde arrived in Nouakchott on Tuesday night to attend the fifth conference on economic integration in the Maghreb Arab Union and evaluate the implementation of an extended loan facility (FEC) to Mauritania.
