Tunisia: current account deficit stands at 6.3% in 2021

Despite the widening of the trade balance in connection with the recovery of economic activity, the current account deficit stood at 6.3% of GDP for the whole year 2021, compared to 6.1% a year earlier, according to the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

This rate is mainly the result of the good performance of expat remittances, which peaked at 8.6 billion dinars.

In addition, the level of foreign exchange reserves has shown some resilience by amounting to 23,313 million dinars or 133 days of imports at the end of the year 2021.
