The volume of passengers who went through the Maya-Maya airport in Brazzaville rose from 745,596 in 2008 to 1,126,071 in 2013, a 38% rise, the Congolese Country Planning and General Works Minister, Jean-Jacques Bouya, announced here Wednesday.
Bouya was speaking at the inauguration, by the Congolese Head of State Denis Sassou Nguesso, of the expansion work of the airport.
The inauguration was attended by the former Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade who came to participate in the first investment and business forum, “Build Africa”, scheduled for 6 and 7 February in Brazzaville.
“This rise in the volume of traffic is due to the modernization of the terminal at Maya-Maya,” the minister added.
The expansion work of the airport cost over 86 billion FCFA. It was funded by China which is in a strategic partnership agreement with Congo since 2007.
