Kenya’s main gateway Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the nation’s capital, Nairobi, was closed and flights diverted to other airports Wednesday due to a dawn fire at the arrival terminal, PANA reported.
The fire started about 5 a.m. local time and continued several hours later, despite efforts by firemen to put it off.
No casualties have been reported so far, but the airport has been evacuated.
The cause of the fire, which reportedly started from the Immigration area, is yet unknown.
Airport officials said inbound flights were being diverted to Mombasa and Eldoret, as well as neighbouring countries.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived at the airport to see things for himself.
