EBRD appoints George Akhalkatsi as Head of Tunisia Operations

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in an official statement, announced the appointment of George Akhalkatsi as Head of its operations in Tunisia, succeeding Nodira Mansurova.

According to the same source, he will assume his duties on September 1, 2026 and will be based at the EBRD’s resident office in Tunis, where he will oversee the Bank’s investments and operations in the country.

He will report to Mark Davis, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.

The EBRD stated that Akhalkatsi, a Georgian national, joined the institution in 2009 and currently serves as Head of its operations in Armenia. He has previously worked at the Bank’s Tbilisi office and in its Manufacturing and Services and Credit Risk Management teams in London.

The Bank added that he holds a master’s degree in law from Tbilisi State University and an MBA from INSEAD, and began his career as a lawyer before moving into banking at Société Générale.

The EBRD noted that it has been operating in Tunisia since 2012, focusing on supporting economic diversification, strengthening the financial sector, and promoting access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises.

It added that since the start of its operations in the country, it has invested more than €3 billion across 90 projects, with around 65% of funding directed to the private sector.
