Experts meet over Common Industrial Policy in West Africa

Experts from ECOWAS member states will meet in Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, from Monday, 28 September, to consider and revalidate the d r aft West African Common Industrial Policy (WACIP) prior to its adoption by their

Heads of State and Government.

The three-day meeting will enable the participants to deliberate specifically on the issues of the smooth implementation of the action plan for the WACIP progra m me, according to a statement from the ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, the Nigerian

federal capital.

The programme provides an overview of the regional economy and the policy thrust while highlighting its vision, objectives, outputs, strategies, policy measures , guiding principles and programmes.

Participants will also agree on the text of an additional Act for the adoption o f the policy document.

The participants are drawn from regional experts and representatives of manufact urers associations of the 15 member states of ECOWAS as well as journalists from

six of the member states.

WACIP was developed as part of the overall strategy of the ECOWAS Commission to realize the aims of establishing the economic community which includes promoting

the industrial development of the region using its enormous resources.
