Gambian cotton coy’s faith shaky

The future of the Gambia Cotton Company (Gamcot), the on ly cotton processing plant in The Gambia, remains unclear and the company staff h ave expressed concern over the sustainability and future of the company.

In an exclusive chat here Friday, the staffers said the company was financially handicapped and cannot pay their salaries since they were entirely relying on th e proceeds from cotton seeds, which is now completely exhausted.

In an interview with Mr. Woppa Baldeh, the acting manager of the company, he ack nowledged the future of the company was at stake and beyond imagination.

Baldeh pointed out the company was facing problems and that the Cotton Growers’ Association was currently making plans to take up the responsibility of cotton p r ocessing.
