Germany pledges 21-million-euro budget support to Burundi

Germany has pledged 21 million euros (about F CFA 13.8 billion) as budget support to Burundi by late 2012, PANA learnt from official sources in Bujumbura.

This is one of the many promises Germany made to Pierre Nkurunziza, the Burundian Head of State, when he visited the European country 13-14 December.

The financial pledge will help enhance the Burundian 2013 state budget which shows a deficit of nearly US$ 70 million (F CFA 35 billion).

According to President Nkurunziza, the money will also support efforts by the Burundian government in the field of socio-economic development.

In addition, a bilateral comprehensive cooperation agreement will be signed during the first quarter of 2013, including other promises on providing military and police equipment, expanding drinking water supply to the city of Bujumbura, building hydroelectric and solar plants as well as a vocational and technical institute in Burundi.
