Head of Nigeria’s privatisation agency ‘suspended’

Nigeria’s federal government has suspended the Director- General of the country’s privatisation agency, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Dr. Christopher A nyanwu, the private Thisday newspaper reported Tuesday.

The paper quoted a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Feder ation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, as directing Dr. Anyanwu to proceed on suspension and hand over to the officer n ext to him.

”Although the reason for Anyanwuâ?s suspension could not be ascertained as at press time, but it may not be unconnected with his handling of the sale of Nigeria Telecommunications Plc (NIT EL), which financial bid opening won by New Generation Telecommunications Consortium was trailed by controversy,’ ‘ Thisday said. . Anyanwu was appointed in March 2009.
