Hydrocarbons and commodities: government to spend 7.2 billion dinars in 2022

The government plans to allocate 7.2 billion dinars of its budget for 2022 or 5.3% of GDP to hydrocarbons, commodities and transport.

According to a report on the 2022 state budget, the financing needs of the hydrocarbon, electricity and gas sectors are estimated at 5.1 billion dinars, provided that a barrel of Brent crude oil is 75 dollars and depending on exchange rate.

According to the report, domestic hydrocarbon production could reach 2.22 million tonnes of crude oil and 2.268 million tonnes of oil equivalent gas. The consumption of natural gas will amount to 5.778 million tonnes in 2022, up 1.6% compared to the projections for 2021.

The consumption of refined petroleum products will rise by 0.7% in 2022 compared to 2021. The country will import 2.944 million tonnes of refined petroleum products compared to 2.905 million tonnes forecast in 2021.

As for the import of Algerian gas, it will increase by 7.6% to 2.696 million tonnes in 2022. The government will have to repay a Saudi loan of 120 million dinars contracted with the oil company Aramco.

In addition, the government intends to earmark a budget of 3.7 billion dinars, against 2.2 billion dinars in 2021. Therefore, 3 billion will be allocated to the grain sector while 480 million dinars will go the the vegetable oil sector.

According to the report, nearly 429 million dinars have been saved under the policy of streamlining commodity subsidy.

Regarding transport, the government will devote 600 million dinars to the school and university transport sector as well as reduced fares and free transport for poor groups against 500 million dinars in 2021.
