Stock market capitalisation grows 0.74% in 2021

The stock market capitalisation grew 0.74% in 2021, that is 170 million dinars (MD), reaching 23,262 MD against 23,092 MD by late 2020, a balance sheet published by the stock exchange market showed. This slight rise is reported in spite of the listing of Smart Tunisie company which capitalisation amounts to 184.4 MD on the day of listing.

The virtual stability of capitalisation is the result of the good performance of stock market prices in relation to large capitalisations.

Financial companies are still dominating market capitalisation with a 42.3% share, followed by consumer goods and industry which have the respective shares of 37.5% and 8%.

The ten largest market capitalisations account for 62.6% of total capitalisation with a total value of 14.568 MD.

The volume of overall trade in 2021 shrank 8%, reaching 2,585 MD against 2,807 MD the previous year. Volumes traded on the stock market account for 64.7% of the overall volume, 2.3% of the over-the-counter trading and 33% of declarations and listings.

The volume of trade rose 6.9% in 2021 to 1,672 MD from 1,564 MD in 2020, that is an average daily volume of 6.7 MD compared to 6.3 MD in 2020.

The exchange of capital securities represent 93% of the volume of trade at a total value of 1,554 MD against 1,399 MD in 2020, that is an 11.1% rise.

Block trades account for 37% of the volume of trading in capital securities and 34% of shares listed on the Tunis Stock Exchange, that is 573 MD against 238 MD in 2020.

Transactions in debt securities represent 7% of the traded stock market volume, that is 117 MD in 2021 against 164 MD in 2020.

The value of the over-the-counter transactions grew 154.9% to reach 60 MD against 23 MD in 2020. Listings and declarations amounted to 854 MD compared to 1,220 MD in 2020 (-33%).
