Investor confidence returns as Nigerian bourse sees upward swing

In what analysts have described as a gradual return of i nvestor confidence in the Nigerian bourse, market capitalization on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) continued its upwards swing on Tuesday with th e All Share-Index increasing from 30,745.74 points to 30,924.97 points.

Investors also staked more money as they placed 7.77 billion naira on 723.7 mill ion shares in 11,544 deals as against 3.79 billion naira placed on 386.52 millio n shares in 5,710 deals on Monday.

The Banking sub-sector continued its lead on the activity chart measured in turn over volume with 369.27 million shares valued at 5.59 billion naira in 7,594 dea l s.

First Bank of Nigeria Plc was the most traded stock with a turnover of 64.6 mill ion shares worth 1.63 billion naira; Guaranty Trust Bank Plc followed with 53.2 m illion shares valued at 780.08 million naira and Access Bank Plc with a turnover

of 39.5 million shares worth 415.20 million naira.

The Insurance sub-sector came next on the activity chart with 106.68 million sha res worth 158.68 million naira.

Custodian And Allied Insurance Plc was the most traded stock with 21.04 million shares valued at 80.5 million naira, followed by Goldlink Insurance Plc with a t u rnover of 20.4 million shares worth 12.4 million naira and Universal Insurance C o mpany Plc recording 13.07 million turnover valued at 9.41 million naira.

The Food/Beverages and Tobacco-sub sector was third on the activity chart with a turnover of 26.9 million shares worth 523.3 million naira in 790 deals.

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc led with 14.4 million shares traded valued at 333.8 m illion naira, Tantalizer Plc recorded 3.81 million shares valued at 6.63 million

naira and National Salt Co. Nig Plc traded 2.36 million shares worth 14.9 millio n naira.

7UP Bottling Co. plc led the gainers table with N1.95 to close at N41.95; Julius Berger Plc gained N1.89 to close at N39.79 and Con Oil Plc closed at N62.50 gai n ing N1.69.

At the other end of the table, Tantalizers Plc led the losers with N0.08 to clos e at N1.74; Aso Savings And Loans Plc followed with N0.07 to close at N1.51 and L aw Union And Rock Nig Plc closed at N1.52 losing N0.07 in the process.
