Libya discovers new oil, gas fields

The Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Abdel al-Bari Al-Aroussi, has announced the discovery of two new oil and gas fields in the region of Ghadamech, South Eastern Libya.

An official communiqué said on Wednesday that the oil field has capacity to produce up to 8,200 barrels per day while the gas block has a capacity of 1.7 million cubic metres per day.

It said that the country’s oil exports in 2012 was 485,149 million barrels while domestic consumption during the period was 52,668 million barrels.

Libya is the second largest exporter of oil in Africa behind Nigeria but has the largest reserves in the continent.
