Libya not involved in Algeria hostage crisis – Premier

Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidane has ruled out any link between Libya and the hostage-taking at a gas complex in Algeria, saying his country would not allow anyone to threaten the peace and security of its neighbors.

Prime Minister Zidane was responding to accusations made by Algeria, through its Minister of Interior Dahou Ould Kablia Thursday, that armed groups who seized hostages at the gas complex in Amenas came from Libya.

Also, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci had alleged that the terrorist group attacked the complex from the Libyan soil.

In a statement broadcast on Libyan television, Mr. Zidane said the Al-Wigh base located in the country’s South-west near the border with Algeria was not used to launch the attack.

”We say that this has not happened and will never happen,” he said.

Libya recalls it had temporarily closed its borders with Algeria, Niger, Chad and Sudan, to enable it to better cope with the insecurity in the southern part of the vast Sahara region.
