Libya: Oil field blockade lifted in southern Libya

Protesters who blockaded the 340,000 barrels per day Al-Charara oil field in Southern Libya Monday ended the blockade after the government met their demands, PANA reported.

“The president of the governmental commission for talks with the protesters, Minister of Defence Abdallah al-Thni, succeeded in signing an agreement with the protesters and they will be granted national registration number and will have the right to create a town council,” an official source said.

“The agreement also covers the construction of a health centre in the region, equipped with an ambulance,” he said.

The residents of Oubari city had organised a sit-in to demand the creation of a town council and the allocation of registration numbers to the Tuareg minority to enable them to get the documents for national identity.
