Mali: IMF pledges to back Mali’s economic recovery programme

The Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, Thursday pledged that the organization would continue to back Mali’s efforts on economic recovery.

She made the pledge at a working session she had with Malian officials here.

She, however, urged Malian authorities to improve their business climate by putting in place measures likely to take the country back on track by ending corruption and reducing the State’s subsidy in some sectors.

Following the March 2012 Coup, Mali’s technical and financial partners decided to stop their aid to the West African country.

Lagarde, who arrived in Mali since Wednesday, met Thursday with President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita before addressing the Malian Social, Economic and Cultural Council.
