Mali seeks funds for water project

The Malian government and its development partners on Friday met in Bamako to discuss the financing of a National Plan of Action of Integrated Management of Water Resources (PAGIRE).

The project is estimated at 16.135 billion FCFA with development partners expected to foot 13.656 billion FCFA, while the share of the Malian government is estimated at 2.479 billion FCFA.

PAGIRE, an inventory and state of water resources and their management, emphasises the objectives, outcomes, shares and terms of implementation of the project.

The setting up of PAGIRE will enable the State, as well as the other groups, to handle the various problems in the management of water in relation to food security, domestic use, energy needs and other uses.

Mali’s technical and financial partners include the World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Holland, Germany, France, Denmark, European Union and GTZ, the German development agency.
