Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Taleb Ould Abdi Vall, and the Chief Executive Officer of Total, Pierre Desvoges, Sunday signed an oil exploration and production agreement, PANA learnt here Monday from official sources.
Under the agreement, Total will conduct oil exploration operations in the block C9 on the Mauritanian coastal basin.
“This contract is the first of its kind in the deep Mauritanian offshore. It is of particular interest to the signatory parties and for those interested in the region, including countries that share the same geological features as Mauritania,” Vali said.
“This contract has a dual meaning for it embodies the beginning of oil exploration in Mauritania’s deep offshore and boosts the promotion of investments in the oil sector,” he added
