Meliá Hotels International launches in Tunisia with 3,000-room expansion plan

Spain’s leading hotel group, Meliá Hotels International, has officially entered the Tunisian market through a strategic partnership with Management Hospitality Group (MHG). The plan includes five new properties, aiming for 3,000 rooms by 2030, according to the site Hotel Online.

The first resort, a 307-room Meliá Hotels & Resorts property in Mahdia, opens in 2026, followed by hotels in Tabarka, Monastir, Djerba, and Tunis through 2029.

The portfolio will include Sol, Meliá Hotels & Resorts, and Gran Meliá brands, targeting diverse traveler segments.

The collaboration leverages MHG’s local expertise and Meliá’s global hotel management experience to reposition assets to international standards, enhance profitability and boost Tunisia’s appeal to European and global tourists, according to the same source.

“Tunisia represents a strategic step in our Mediterranean expansion,” said Gabriel Escarrer. “We aim to support sustainable, high-value tourism through quality, diversified offerings.”

Meliá’s entry aligns with Tunisia’s tourism growth, which attracts over 11 million visitors annually and is shifting toward a more quality-driven, diversified model.
