Niger’s national banking trade-union, SYMBANK, on Tuesday began a two-day strike to demand better wages and working conditions. â?We demand the adoption of a collective convention for workers of the banking sector to improve their living conditions. Our strike has been widely followed i n Niamey (the capital) and the rest of the country,â? SYMBANK secretary-general, Issoufou Chaibou, said.
Meanwhile, no action has been taken to open negotiations with the leadership of the union..
â?If the authorities remain silent about our strike, we will meet at the end of the two-day deadline, and we will continue the fight,â? Mr Chaibou added.
