Zim hotel group eyes Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria

 A Zimbabwean hotel group said on Wednesday it planned to open six new hotels in Botswana, Ghana and Nigeria in the next 12 months.

African Sun said the tourism industry in Africa was picking up, after a slump ca used by the world financial crisis, and the investments were timed to take advan t age of the recovery.

It said it would open one hotel in Botswana, two in Nigeria and three in Ghana. African Sun already has hotels in the three countries.

The hotel group, the largest in Zimbabwe, runs hotels in several African countri es, including Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.

It has announced plans to expand aggressively in Africa to escape a faltering ho me market and become the continent’s biggest hotel chain.

In recent months, it has borrowed heavily from banks to fund the expansion progr amme.
