Niger withdraws operating licence from Libyan phone company

The Nigerien government Thursday withdrew the mobile operator licence, assigned to Libyan society LAP Green Network, after the expiration of the notice which was issued May, a statement issued in Niamey disclosed.

On 19 January, 2011, Niger signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LAP Green Networks, assigning a licence to it to operate cellular telephone business in Niger.

“This company has not paid the cost of the licence. On 20 May, 2011, a formal notice requesting such payment within two weeks was sent. In response, LAP Green Networks justified the delay by the events in Libya that have made banking transactions with the outside world impossible,” the statement said.

“Under the circumstances, the Government of Niger intends to notify LAP Green Networks of the termination of the MoU,” the statement added
