Nigeria, Ivorian airlines explore partnership

Nigeria’s largest domestic airline, Arik Air, and Cote d’Ivoire’s new carrier Air Cote d’Ivoire, are exploring a partnership that could help resolve the challenges of intra-Africa connections.

As a first step, a delegation of the Ivorian airline Wednesday visited the offices of Arik Air in Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos.

The Ivorian delegation was headed by the chairman of Air Cote d’Ivoire, Gen. Coulibaly Abdoulaye, who explained that the visit to Arik Air has afforded the delegation the opportunity to learn how to run a service driven airline which will become a model in Africa.

He explained that the partnership would also equip the Ivorian airline with the strategy of building a hub for the southern part of Central Africa.

Gen. Abdoulaye noted that since the collapse of Air Afrique, there has been no direct air link between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire.

Arik Air Chairman Arumemi Ikhide described the airline as a good model for other African carriers to emulate.
