Tunisia: a State, always spending beyond its means

Tunisia’s budgetary resources totaled TND 5.017 billion (including TND 4.809 billion in tax revenues), as of February 2021.

Of these resources, the budget was already disbursing more than it had received.

In February, the Tunisian Treasury disbursed TND 3.345 billion in wages and salaries, and 208 MD in management expenses, up 8.3%.

The figures of the Ministry of Finance on the execution of the budget 2021 also reported another 591 MD in intervention expenditures and transfers, which were down 23.3% compared to February 2020.

On the other hand, there are only 235.9 MD in investment expenditures against 271.7 MD in the same period of 2020, and 776.9 MTD in interest on debt.

Already, the budget balance was negative 177.8 MD last February, certainly from 315.8 MD in the same period of 2020.

The fact remains that the Tunisian state, which struggles to raise foreign resources, spent more than its resources.
