Nigeria’s largest domestic airline, Arik Air Ltd, which Thursday suspended all domestic flights, is set to resume normal operations following the resolution reached of its challenges with the Nigerian Federal Government.
Officials of the various Nigerian aviation unions besieged the offices of the airline last Thursday to press for the payments of billions of naira owed to aviation agencies, disrupting the operations of the airline at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in the commercial city of Lagos. Arik Air then stopped all flight operations nationwide.
But on Saturday evening, the Secretary to the Government of the Nigerian Federation (SGF), Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the resolution of the dispute between the two parties – Arik Air and Ministry of Aviation and its agencies – advising “both parties to eschew every provocation that may have arisen as a result of this unfortunate misunderstanding”.
In a statement signed by Chief Anyim, he said: “All issues in contention were discussed and resolved. A road map for the smooth working together of both parties were also agreed upon.”
The Ministry of Aviation and the Management of Arik Air were directed to “apologise to all travellers”.
