OMMP: ports commercial traffic grows 4% in 2021

Commercial traffic in ports grew 4% in 2021, compared to 2020, according to data published by the Office of Merchant Navy and Ports (OMMP) Tuesday .

As for passenger traffic, they went up 83% in 2021 to 584,774 passengers, from 319,231 in 2020. Car traffic surged by 76% to 242,089 cars in 2021 from 137,746 in 2020.

As for ship traffic, it posted a slight decrease (2%) to 4,464 ships in 2021 from 4,567 in 2020.

The commercial seaports, including the port of Skhira, recorded traffic amounting to 28.013 million tonnes in 2021, against 26.811 million tonnes in 2020.

The traffic of rolling units in Tunisian ports rose 4%, to 148,830 units in 2021, from 142,633 in 2020, while the tonnage of rolling units grew 8%.

During the same period, the traffic of containers decreased by 3%, to 469.518 thousand Twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), from 484.349 thousand TEU, in 2020,
