OMVS launches Gouina dam project in Kayes region

Heads of State of the member countries of the Organization for the Development of the River Senegal (OMVS) on Tuesday launched works on the Gouina dam at Diamo, 45 km from the Malian region of Kayes, that will generate electricity.

The project, estimated at CFAF 201 billion, will produce 140 megawatts of power when completed.

The Gouina hydro-electric station is the fourth major project of the OMVS after the Manantali dam in Mali producing 200 megawatts of power a year, the anti-salt dam of Diama, Senegal and the Felou hydro-electric station.

OMVS is made up Guinea, Mauritania, Mali and Senegal.
