Police warn businessmen against refusing Gambian currency

 Gambia’s Police Chief, Essa Badjie, has warned the busin ess community in the West African nation against refusing the country’s currency

the (Dalasis) in their businesses or risk “prosecution”, PANA reported Tuesday.

In a statement issued from his office, the police chief said: “all are reminded that the Dalasi remains legal tender for the Central Bank of the Gambia and any p erson or persons found to be refusing to accept this denomination would face pro s ecution.”

The same statement urged the general public to report anyone found refusing “to accept the Dalasi denomination for payment for goods to the nearest police stati o n.”

Meanwhile, the Gambian currency in recent times has been fluctuating against for eign currencies like the French francs, the US dollar, the Euro, among others.

A couple of weeks ago, some businessmen in the country called on the government to do something about the unstable dalasis.
