President Kais Saied was briefed on Thursday afternoon at Carthage Palace by Social Affairs Minister Kamel Madouri on the results of Tunisia’s participation in the meetings of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the presidency said in a statement.
The Head of State stressed that his call to amend the Labour Code and put an end to the use of subcontracting and fixed-term contracts underlined his desire to guarantee the rights of workers and remove them from situations that are unacceptable because they lack social justice and do not preserve their dignity.
In this context, the President of the Republic underlined the need to make a definitive break with the past in a series of laws relating to employment, labour relations, retirement, health insurance… “so that every citizen lives in conditions that preserve their dignity, whether they are actively employed or retired”.
If there are current laws or regulations that impede the achievement of social justice, “the national duty and responsibility of the state to achieve justice requires that they be reviewed as soon as possible,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.
