Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has been invited by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, to next Saturday’s G8 Summit on Tax, Trade and Transparency in the UK, the Office of the President announced here Wednesday.

An official statement from the Flagstaff House in Accra said President Mahama would leave Accra on Wednesday for London at the invitation of Mr. Cameron and join other heads of state and government at the Lancaster House on Saturday for the Summit.

It said the two leaders were also scheduled to hold bilateral talks on Friday at No. 10 Downing Street before attending the Summit.

The statement said as part of his itinerary while in the UK, President Mahama would attend the Trooping the Colour event to mark the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, and a Prime Minister’s lunch for heads of state attending the G8 summit.

President Mahama would meet with the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, and deliver a lecture on “Ghana’s Democratic Gains, Economic Change and Regional Influence” at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, otherwise known as Chatham House.

He would also grant audience to the All-Africa Parliamentary Group from the British House of Commons, the African Diplomatic Corps in the UK and meet with the Ghanaian community in the UK.

President Mahama is expected home on 17 July.
