The Secretary-General met today with the President of the Republic of Mali, H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.
The Secretary-General congratulated President Keïta on the signing of the peace agreement. He underscored the importance of all parties fully and inclusively implementing the agreement to ensure lasting peace in Mali. He welcomed the efforts of the Government to resolve the crisis in Anéfis, and called for early progress in the implementation of priority areas in order to maintain the momentum for peace.
The Secretary-General emphasized the need for the countries of the sub-region to collectively address the security challenges in northern Mali, and called for enhanced cooperation among them.
The Secretary-General assured the President of the United Nations’ steadfast support to the Malian people in their search for peace, notably through the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
