The fifth edition of the conference on economic development in the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) opened Tuesday afternoon in Nouakchott, Mauritania’s capital city.
The meeting focuses on intra-Maghreb and foreign investments and their impact on employment in AMU countries.
It brings together government officials from AMU countries, financial experts and private sector actors, among others.
Defining the objective of the conference, the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania, Sid’Ahmed Ould Raiss, said it provides the opportunity to meet current regional and international challenges posed by the political upheavals and changes sweeping across the region.
It hailed the role played by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in supporting efforts aimed at strengthening economic development in the AMU.
Established in 1989, the AMU comprises Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.
