Sahel Club seeks 12 million Euros to implement programmes

The Sahel and West African Club (CSAO) is seeking about 1 2 million Euros to fund its operations in 18 African countries and at its Paris h eadquarters, the organisation’s chairman, Charles Goerens, told PANA Friday.

“On the whole we need three million euros annually and another 200,000 euros”, h e said.

“We are calling on donors to fund our specific programmes”, Goerens, former Luxe mbourg Cooperation minister, added.

CSAO, attached to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OEC D), met representatives of the 18 African countries that benefit from its interv e ntions, donors and the civil society, to approve its policy for the next four ye a rs.

Goerens said “We have integrated the suggestions of our North and South partners to define our policies for the years 2008 to 2012.

“Our activities will focus on four areas: food security, conflict prevention, re gional integration and gobal economy integration”.

Goerens underscored the originality of the institution’s move, explaining that i t recruits both African and Western experts.

“We will be working with both the supervision of North and South experts which p rovides added value to the knowledge about African issues.
