Sanofi will not leave Tunisia; Kilani’s family guarantees this

Some time ago, the Kilani Group, which operates notably in the pharmaceutical sector, announced a strategic partnership aimed at benefiting both the group and the country, in line with the President of the Republic’s ongoing emphasis on sovereignty and self-reliance.

On February 12, 2026, the Kilani Group and Sanofi announced the conclusion of a strategic partnership to ensure the continuity and development of Sanofi’s operations in Tunisia through a new operational model.

Why the Kilani–Sanofi partnership?

This new structure will sustainably guarantee Tunisian patients’ access to Sanofi’s therapeutic solutions, while strengthening the local anchoring of industrial and commercial activities and promoting the introduction of therapeutic innovations aligned with national health priorities.

Under this agreement, Sanofi’s activities in Tunisia will now be managed by two Kilani Group entities:

Teriak, which will be responsible for local production of a portfolio of Sanofi medicines.

Teriak operates modern production sites, manufactures a wide range of pharmaceutical forms, produces and distributes its own generics, and produces licensed products for several leading international pharmaceutical companies.

Medicis which will handle medical and scientific information, interactions with health authorities and the promotion of Sanofi’s therapeutic solutions to the Tunisian medical community.

This setup ensures full operational continuity, a secure supply chain, and closer engagement with healthcare professionals.

Both parties affirm their commitment to serving Tunisia’s healthcare system, maintaining essential medicine availability, ensuring high quality, and actively supporting the health sector.

“We welcome the trust Sanofi has placed in the Kilani Group to support this new strategic stage in Tunisia. With our industrial, logistical, and scientific capabilities and deep knowledge of the Tunisian market, we are fully committed to ensuring continuous patient access to treatments.

This partnership reflects our long-term dedication to public health in Tunisia,” said Sara Masmoudi, CEO of Kilani Group.

Immediately after the partnership was announced, concerns arose about a possible exit of the French pharmaceutical operator from Tunisia, fueling unfounded fears about production halts. Africanmanager verified the facts.

“What’s the real situation? Was Sanofi ever planning to leave Tunisia?”

Sanofi is undergoing a global strategic shift to focus on research, development, and innovation while adjusting its industrial footprint. In Tunisia, this translates into a new model based on local partnerships.

The Mégrine site, formerly a Sanofi industrial facility, is now operated by Opella, which manufactures its own portfolio alongside Sanofi products (Opella originated from Sanofi’s consumer health division and is now independent, controlled by US investment fund Clayton, Dubilier & Rice -CD&R, with Sanofi retaining a minority stake. Opella is known for marketing Doliprane.)

Under the Kilani Group agreement, Teriak will handle local production of a portfolio of Sanofi medicines, ensuring continued manufacturing in Tunisia with a recognized national partner.

Medical promotion, previously handled by a Sanofi services entity, will now be managed by Medicis, a Kilani Group subsidiary. Teams affected by these changes have been informed and will receive support measures.

Kilani Group assures that those interested in joining Medicis will be welcomed, with experience considered an important asset.

Meanwhile, the Central Pharmacy will continue importing other Sanofi medicines not included in this arrangement, with the supply model unchanged.

This is not a withdrawal but a reconfiguration of Sanofi’s presence in Tunisia, based on an industrial partnership with a local player to guarantee continuous access to treatments.

“We are opening a new chapter with a local partner of reference like the Kilani Group, reflecting our commitment to sustainably ensure access to our therapeutic solutions in Tunisia and to strengthen our collaboration with health authorities and professionals,” said Rami Mroueh, General Manager Pharma Morocco-Tunisia-Libya at Sanofi.
