Tunisia: Tourist arrivals fall 20.4% in 2013

Tourist arrivals in Tunisia fell 20.4% in 2013 (January 1 to February 20), compared with the same period in 2010, reaching 439,708 tourists, according to latest statistics of the Tunisian National Tourism Office reported by TAP.

This decline has affected many nationalities, especially European and Maghreb.

Compared to 2012, where tourism saw some improvement, the decline was -7.7% (476,412 tourists).

Until February 20, 2013, Tunisia received 122,624 tourists from Europe, mostly from France (44,283), Germany (18,707), the UK (18,146) and Italy (13,817), against 175,443 visitors in 2010, down 30.1%. Compared to 2012, the decline was less pronounced (-5.4%).

On the level of the Maghreb, the country received 301,039 tourists including 81,529 Algerians, 213,960 Libyans, 3,482 Moroccans and 2,068 Mauritania.

This total is down 16.1% compared to the same period in 2010 (358,651 tourists) and -8.9% compared to 2012.
