Shura Council warns against any attack on local authority

Ennahdha Shura Council warned against any attack on local authority and elected municipal councils, denouncing any intention to replace them by special delegations “close” to President Kais Saied, after the abolition of the Ministry of Local Affairs.

In a statement issued after its meeting on Sunday, the Shura Council blasted an orchestrated “smear” campaign that has targeted parties and civil society organisations, denouncing attempts to dissolve or freeze constitutional authorities.

The shura council said these practices risk leading the country to a “populist tyrannical regime”, a regime that has proven its failure and catastrophic results in many countries around the world, according to the statement.

The Shura Council called on the nation’s living forces to work under the same banner to defend the country’s gains in freedom and dignity, restore the constitutional path and put an end to the “coup d’état” and its disastrous effects on Tunisia.

He stressed that the various exceptional measures decreed by the head of state, have so far aggravated the crisis of the country, damaged its image in the world “and promoted its diplomatic isolation.

In addition, the Shura Council reaffirmed its support for former President Moncef Marzouki and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and judges targeted by campaigns of slander and intimidation.
