Shut Nigerian airport reopens for flights

Nigerian aviation authorities have reopened the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the capital city of Abuja, a day after it was closed to flights following an incident involving a Saudi Cargo plane.

The plane, which overshot the runway on landing on Wednesday night, blocked the airport’s sole runway, leading to the cancellation of Thursday’s flights to and from the inland capital city.

No casualty was recorded in the incident.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Nnamdi Udoh, told journalists that the Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIPB) had launched an investigation into the incident.

The B747 plane has now been been removed and the runway opened.
