Tunisair to launch direct flights to Cameroon in 2015

– According to the Tunisian Ministry of Transportation, Chiheb Ben Ahmed, the national airline, Tunisair, will start direct flights to Cameroon’s two largest cities, Yaoundé and Douala, in 2015. Up to now, Tunisair has not had flights to Cameroon. Tunisia-bound flights from Cameroon were done by Air France and Royal Air Maroc, involving long layovers in Paris or Casablanca.

According to a Tunisian government official, the launch of direct flights between Tunisia and Cameroon is the result of increased trade relations between the two countries over the last five years.

A reliable source affirms that, in 2013, Cameroon was 30th on Tunisia’s list of customers, but was 64th in 2005. Over the same period, Cameroon copped the 52nd spot among Tunisia’s suppliers while it was 85th in 2005.

To boost trade, a delegation of some thirty Tunisian business leaders will be visiting Yaoundé and Douala on February 24. Up to February 28, the Tunisian businessmen will be scouting for investment opportunities in Cameroon.
