Tunisia: “Tunisie Telecom” preparing to sell stakes in “Mattel”

“Tunisie Telecom” (TT) is preparing to sell the majority of its stakes in Mauritania telecommunications operator “Mattel” which currently provides GSM services in the country, reports “Jeune Afrique.”

The Tunisian company is eager to leave the market, and despite its relatively modest position – “Mattel” has a share of about 18% of the market with 700,000 subscribers – a number of companies want to locate there.

Last month, “TeleGeography CommsUpdate’s” stated that the Moroccan telecom service provider Wana (Inwi) is interested in investing in Mattel, while France Telecom-Orange is also considering a bid after supervising Telco for almost a year.

However, the newspaper said operator Etisalat, based in the United Arab Emirates, is no longer interested in “Mattel” which was created in May 2000, and also has a number of private shareholders.
