Tunisia: 1,239 guest workers hired abroad in H1 2014

Some 1,239 Tunisian guest workers were recruited abroad in the first half of 2014, up 13.3% compared to the same period of 2013.

According to a statement released Wednesday by the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT), 363 guest workers were hired in the field of education and teaching, i.e. 29.2% of the overall recruitment. It also pointed to the recruitment of 272 guest workers in the field of health and 220 others in the field of trade and marketing.

Arab countries are the main beneficiaries of Tunisian skills with 915 recruitments, i.e. 73.8% of the overall recruitment.

Saudi Arabia has the lion’s share in terms of recruitment of Tunisian skills with 296 employed, or 23.8% of the total hires, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 285 hires and Qatar with 184 hires.

It should be noted that the total number of guest workers abroad totaled 15,107 at the end of the first half of this year.
