The production of the “Compagnie des Phosphates de Gafsa” (CPG) in commercial phosphate has amounted to 2.8 million tons, from the start of the year, until last September, or 38% below the targets set.
According to statistics from the CPG, almost all production comes from the sites of Metlaoui and Mdhilla, given the interruption of production in the sites of Redeyef and Oum Larayes, due to social demands and protests that have continued since 2020.
On the other hand, during the first nine months of the current year, the CPG has managed to supply its local customers among the manufacturers of chemical fertilizers, namely the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) and the Tunisian-Indian Fertilizer Company (TIFERT), by nearly 2 million 655 thousand tons of commercial phosphate.
The year 2022 also saw a gradual return of the CPG on the world phosphate market, exporting about 56 thousand tons to customers in France and Turkey.
The Company had developed, during the year, a plan to revive Tunisian exports of phosphate to Asian and European markets, after more than ten years of stoppage. The aim is to export 300,000 tons of commercial phosphate on global markets.
