Tunisia: $22m untapped export potential to Kenya

Tunisia’s untapped export potential to Kenya is estimated at $22 million, said Sofien Dridi, charge d’affaires at the Tunisian embassy in Nairobi.

The value of Tunisian exports to this country reached TND 40 million at the end of September 2023, he said during a webinar organized on Monday by the Export Promotion Center (CEPEX), in anticipation of the exploratory mission to Kenya and Tanzania scheduled for 15-22 November.

With regard to Tanzania, Dridi pointed out that this market has a commercial potential of $1.8 million, adding that Tunisian exports to this East African country had reached TND 3.6 million by the end of September 2023, compared to TND 2.1 million during the same period in 2022.

The official explained that all the logistical conditions are now in place to guarantee the success of this economic mission, during which the Tunisian delegation will take part in two economic forums, namely the Tunisian-Kenyan forum and the Tunisian-Tanzanian forum.

Riadh Attia, Deputy Managing Director of CEPEX noted that Kenya is now a gateway to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
