Tunisia 26th most unhappy country in the world according to latest Happiness Report

Tunisia is ranked 120th out of 144 countries in the latest World Happiness Report, an analysis conducted by the United Nations, while it was ranked 122nd in last year’s edition.

Tunisia’s score was 4.5 for an average world happiness score of 5.6.

The United Nations study shows that Tunisia is tinged with pessimism with regard to the freedom to make life choices. Moreover, the generosity of Tunisians was poorly rated by the Tunisian respondents who participated in the UN survey.

Happiness levels depend on a number of factors, including financial security, perception of social support, sense of personal freedom, but also the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and perception of corruption.

The Happiness Report looks at average scores from 2019 to 2021, highlighting the happiest and unhappiest countries.

For the least happy country in Africa, Zimbabwe ranks near the bottom of the overall list

with a score of 2.995. Rwanda (143rd) is the second most unfortunate country in Africa and the world. It is followed by Botswana (142nd) and Lesotho (141st). Sierra Leone is the fifth most unhappy country, ranking 140th.

Tanzania (139th), Malawi (138th) and Zambia (137th) follow. Togo (135th) is the ninth most unhappy country on the continent. Mauritania (133rd) closes the TOP 10 of the unhappiest countries on the continent. Tunisia is the 17th most unhappy African country.

With a regional score of 4.5, Africa ranks as the unhappiest region in the world.

Mauritius remains the happiest country in the region, probably due to its relatively high-income levels.

It should be noted that Mauritius became a high-income country in July 2020, but was downgraded to upper-middle-income status in 2021 due to the global pandemic.

The second happiest African country is Libya, which ranks 86th. Côte d’Ivoire is the third happiest African country, ranking 88th overall.

The UN report explains that the top ten countries in the ranking are wealthy European economies. The three happiest countries in the world are Finland, on the top with a score of 7.821, Denmark (7.636) and Iceland (7.557).
