The 2012 olive harvest in the governorate of Sfax is estimated at 270,000 tons by the Regional Agricultural Development Authority (CRDA).
Some 60,000 tons of olive oil will be extracted at the end of the harvest that began Sunday.
Responding to a question about the lack of manpower, the regional commissioner of agricultural development, Ridha Belhaj Salem, said construction workers involved in the water conservation program and the forest sector have been directed towards the olive harvest to increase staffing in olive groves.
