Tunisia joins Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia

Tunisia has joined the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) following the adoption by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN) of a Tunisian request to that effect.

The accession of Tunisia to the ECWA is in line with the interest taken by Tunisia in the action of the ECWA as part of the UN system supporting the efforts of Arab countries in the field of development.

This membership demonstrates the commitment of Tunisia to take advantage of projects and cooperation programs implemented by the ECWA.

The areas of intervention of the ECWA are: water, energy, social policy, globalization, technology transfer and advancement of women.

The ECWA, which brings together now 17 Arab countries, holds its ministerial sessions once every two years. The last one was held in Beirut (Lebanon) in May 2012 with the participation of Tunisia as an observer.
