Tunisia: 7% inflation for food products

Minister of Regional Development and Planning, Jamaleddine Gharbi gave an overview of the economic situation at a meeting dedicated to following up the debate with members of the government.

The minister said that the national economy has experienced a significant growth during the last nine months of 2012.

In addition, Mr. Gharbi noted that the rate of economic growth increased from 2.2% in January 2012 to 3.3% in September 2012.

Moreover, the inflation rate reached 7% for food, 3.2% in the field of housing, 7.6% for clothing and 2.1% for transport.

Regarding exports, the minister said they posted an increase of 4% compared to the beginning of 2012. Add to this, the growth of the tourism sector, the production of electricity and cement.

He also recalled that investment intentions are focused on the North-East of Tunisia with a rate of about 60%.
