Tunisia and Egypt cooperate on investment

The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) hosted the fourth meeting of the Egyptian-Tunisian Technical Committee for Investment Cooperation over three days, continuing efforts to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in May 2022, according to a statement cited by Arab Finance.

The sessions were co-chaired by Yasser Abbas, Executive Vice President of GAFI, and Jalal Tabib, Director General of the Tunisian Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).

Abbas stated that this cooperation reflects the historical ties between Egypt and Tunisia and their shared goal of attracting investment to support economic development.

He emphasized both parties’ commitment to addressing investment ecosystem challenges and exchanging technical knowledge to improve the overall business climate. He also encouraged Tunisian investors to explore opportunities in Egypt, highlighting GAFI’s readiness to support them, particularly amid accelerated digital transformation.

Tabib highlighted the importance of joint efforts to increase investment flows and open new sustainable development opportunities.

Discussions focused on Egypt’s major reforms to improve the business environment, including updates to economic legislation, infrastructure development, and approval of the State Property Policy document.

The Tunisian delegation presented an overview of FIPA’s strategy to strengthen Tunisia’s position as a regional investment hub, emphasizing support for the transition to a knowledge-based economy and the attraction of investments in technology, renewable energy, and high-tech industries.

The presentation also highlighted Tunisia’s competitive advantages, including its strategic location, skilled workforce, modern infrastructure, extensive free trade agreements network, and incentive measures such as financial and fiscal benefits.
